Therapy and its Actions

Therapy and its Actions

Sonoelectroporation

In this mode of HECCUS, the applicator head is used and, when necessary, an aluminum electrode and vegetable sponge are used. The orientations about the use according to the selected modality follow below.

  • Only ultrasound emission of 3 MHz, the use of dispersive electrode is not necessary.
  • Only emission of medium frequency polarized current (negative or positive) – 4.000 Hz. Dispersive electrode of the channel is used.
  • Association of ultrasound of 3 MHz with medium frequency polarized current  (negative or positive) – 4.000 Hz. Dispersive electrode is used in channel 1.

Aussie Current

AUSSIE Current is a current used for nerve electrostimulation. The senoidal current with frequency of 4.000 Hz and modulation of Bursts with duration of 4 ms is used for sensory stimulation. For motor stimulation, a senoidal current with frequency of 1.000 Hz and modulation of Bursts with duration of 2 ms is used. The current can also have variable frequency of modulation of Bursts in the range of 10 Hz to 120 Hz.

In this mode Heccus applicator head is not used; only the conductive silicone rubber electrodes or needle electrodes (eletrolipolysis) will be used through the output channels 1, 2 3 or 4.

Also in this mode, Heccus allows stimulation:

  • Synchronous: the current is emitted in a synchronous way where the four channels work together and simultaneously perform the selected time: RISE, ON, Decay and OFF.
  • Sequential: the current is emitted from one channel to another in a sequential way according to the selected RISE time, being that the first channel only ceases the passage of stimulation when the third one is passing through it. Thus, there is no possibility of liquid reflux. Times ON, OFF and Decay will be disabled.

Polarized Current

In this mode, Heccus head is not also used, but aluminum-vegetable sponge electrodes, through the output channels 1,2, 3, or 4 are. It is medium frequency polarized current (negative or positive) – 4.000 Hz.

The electrodes connection cables, used for polarized current application, which will be placed on the patient skin have alligator clips on the ends. One clip is red and the other one is black. When the selected polarity is positive, the wire with red clip is positive and the wire with black clip is negative. When the selected polarity is negative, the wire with red clip is negative and the wire with black clip is positive.

Three-dimensional Sonophoresis

In this mode HECCUS uses the applicator head for:

  • Only ultrasound emission of 3.0 MHz or
  • Only emission of Aussie current in a tripolar way (three-dimensional).
  • Association of ultrasound of 3.0 MHz with Aussie current emitted in tripolar way (three-dimensional).

Electrolipolysis with needles

This treatment is indicated for localized fat, cellulite, lumps and retractions after liposuction, skin flaccidity, and abdominal muscle with ptosis, on the glutei.

Electrolipolysis technique is characterized by the application of alternating electric current, low frequency modulating 10Hz (Aussie Current) which will act directly on the adipose cells of regions with localized fat. The technique produces lipolysis and, in some cases, lysis of adipocytes.

The use of this therapeutic technique, whose electrodes are acupuncture needles which are inserted in pairs, perpendicularly into the dermis, into the adipose tissue, creates a local electric field with the passage of the current generated by the equipment. The distance between one needle and the other one should be uniform.

The application of the treatments should be done only by skilled professionals and properly qualified.

FAQs  -  Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs  -  Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is Heccus combined therapy?

Heccus was developed with the objective of improving cellulite treatment therapy and localized fat. It is tripolar equipment, with three transducers which act simultaneously. This arrangement allows treatment of larger areas in short time of application and a better distribution of energy in the tissues; thus, reaching the cells that are just below the equipment head which is in movement in a three-dimensional way.

Since it is associated with the Aussie current, it allows the simultaneous stimulation of local lymphatic drainage and the muscle strengthening depending on the stimulation frequency that is used. It is a high performance equipment, higher than the other equipments available in the market; it also allows software updates offered by the manufacturer.

2. How does Heccus Combined Therapy act on cellulite and localized fat?

The use of ultrasound for clinical aesthetic treatments is specially related to its mechanical and thermal effects which cause micro-oscillations in the cells and in the environment around them. The mechanical effects change the cell membrane potential; thus increasing its permeability and inducing the increase in cell metabolism.

In this kind of treatment, the target cells are fibroblasts and fat cells. Cellulite presents several tissue structural changes in microcirculation and in adipocytes themselves.

The physical effects of ultrasound, cavitation and acoustic micro-flow act directly on these changes and promote new blood vessels formation, rearrangement and increase in the extensibility of collagen fibers, improvement in the mechanical properties of tissue and thixotropic action (dissolution) of lipolytic nodules. Regarding fat cells, the ultrasonic energy promotes lipolysis (breakdown of stored fat molecules) favoring the release of free fatty acid and other lipids for blood and lymphatic circulation, and also improving the redistribution of body fat.

Thermal effects associate with the increase in local blood flow, consequently, improving tissue nutrition and removal of cell metabolism residues. The effects are potentized with Heccus combined therapy (ultrasound associated with Aussie current); it is caused by the action of the current on the lymphatic system, lymphatic drainage, and on the muscular system; thus leading to muscle strengthening.

3. How many sessions a week are suitable to perform Heccus combined therapy?

It depends on the objectives of the therapist. It is generally recommended from two to three sessions per week on alternate days, in order to complete a round of 10 to 20 sessions.

4. Can patients with metallic implants or women with IUD (intraulterine device) be treated with Heccus combined therapy?

The ultrasound of Heccus combined therapy has a frequency of 3 MHz. In this frequency, ultrasonic waves are absorbed on the surface of the body tissue (skin and subcutaneous tissue). So, the deep tissue where the implants are, do not suffer any kind of interference.

In three-dimensional sonophoresis modality the equipment simultaneously emits ultrasound + Aussie current. Aussie current is an alternating and depolarized current and, as long as the use recommendations are followed, it does not cause any harm to the patient. On the other hand, its use is inadvisable in sonoelectroporation and isolated polarized current (iontophoresis) due to the possible chemical alterations caused by the current in the tissues.

5. Can women who are breastfeeding be treated with Heccus combined therapy?

Yes, as long as the use of active principles is avoided during the treatment.

6. How many days after plastic surgery can treatment with Heccus start?

It is possible to start the treatment with Heccus combined therapy, with sonophoresis or sonoelectroporation modalities, 48 hours after the surgery, provided that the “immediate and late post-operative” protocols are respected. According to the evolution of inflammatory process, local tissue repair and regeneration, the “late post-operative” protocol is used.

In case of sonoelectroporation modality where the current is polarized, additional care must be taken, since in cases of discontinuity (location of incision/cut/lesion) there is a loss of impedance (skin resistance to the passage of current) of the skin and the local electrochemical reactions become more intense.

7. Is it possible to combine two programs (treatment modalities) in the same area and in the same session?

Regarding the combined therapy modalities such as three-dimensional sonophoresis and sonoelectroporation, it is not necessary to perform them on the same area, in the same session. If indicated, the application is possible on alternate days or on different areas in the same session. In the case of isolated Aussie current it is possible, after the treatment with the above mentioned modalities, to perform the treatment in muscle strengthening programs (1kHz/50Hz), or edema drainage, or lymphatic drainage (4KHz/10Hz),.

8. Is it possible to introduce anti-cellulite or anti-inflammatory actives (medicines) with Heccus combined therapy?

Using gel with active principles, it is possible to potentize cellulite and localized fat treatments by using sonophoresis modality (ultrasound + phonophoresis + Aussie current). If the active principle used is polarized, use the sonoelectroporation modality (ultrasound + phonophoresis + polarized current – iontophoresis).

9. Can I associate other therapeutic resources with Heccus combined therapy in the same session?

Yes. It is interesting to perform what we call, in this case, sequential combined therapy. The combination of techniques has the potential to dynamize the results. It is important to emphasize that the therapist should be sure about the procedures which will be performed. The most effective combinations are: vacuum therapy, lymphatic drainage, carboxytherapy, among others.

10. What is the ideal intensity of electric current in combined therapy?

For Aussie current application, three-dimensional modality, the intensity should be the motor stimulation. For polarized current application in sonoelectroporation modality, the current intensity should be according to the sensory threshold of the patient, but avoiding pain threshold. The increase in intensity should be gradual which makes the therapy more comfortable.

11. Can the patient cooperate to improve the results of the treatment?

Sure, the patient can and should adhere to treatment drinking much liquid, avoiding hyper-caloric diets, alcoholic beverages, cigarettes and too much salt. The patient should also practice regular physical activities aiming to promote the increase of body metabolism, in order to “burn” the circulating lipids which are released by the therapy.

12. Are there any contraindications for Heccus combined therapy?

Yes, the therapy is contraindicated for pregnant women and patients with decompensated lipid profile (LDL, VLDL and total cholesterol above normal values).
